How To Prepare A Spiritual Cleansing Bath
Sometimes you can feel when it's time to clear the slate energetically. You may feel heavy, depleted, emotionally overwhelmed, or simply as though you've picked up more from the people and world around you than you want to carry.
Water has always felt like a powerful conduit for emotional energy to me. Think about how renewed you can feel after a shower, a bath, or a swim. I'm also fascinated by Dr. Masaru Emoto's experiments with water, which explored whether words, thoughts, and intention could affect the formation of water crystals. His work has strongly influenced the way I think about—and work with—water in my own magical practice.
In this video, I take you into my garden to gather herbs and roses for a spiritual cleansing bath, then show you how I combine them with water, candles, and intention for energy clearing and self-care. The idea is simple: choose plants associated with purification and clearing, add others for the energy you want to invite in, and include something for protection once the clearing is complete.
I created this particular bath largely from herbs growing in my own garden, but you can easily adapt it to what you have available.
Herbs for Your Spiritual Cleansing Bath
You don't need to use every herb I used. Choose a combination that makes sense for your own ritual and intentions.
Cedar — purification, healing, protection
Rose — healing, love, protection
Lavender — purification, peace, love, happiness, protection
Rosemary — purification, healing, love, protection
Mint — purification, healing, protection
Chamomile — peace, love, healing
Fern — amplifies the workings of the plants it is combined with, clears unwanted energy, and protects against the negative energy of others
Thyme — purification, healing, love, protection
A Few Magical Extras
I also added Florida Water for spiritual cleansing, purification, and protection, along with a red candle to invite loving energy and a black candle to absorb, break, and repel negative energy.
You can use these or create your own version with whatever feels appropriate to you. The important thing is the intention behind the bath: clear what you don't want to carry, invite in the energy you do want, and protect the space you've created.
Have a good soak and stay in the bath for as long as feels right. When I'm ready to get out, I strain the plant material from the water first and then dunk my head three times as part of the clearing ritual.
And don't forget to thank the water and plants for their help. ❤️
No Bathtub? Try a Spiritual Cleansing Shower
You can still create a simple version of the ritual without a bathtub. Steep your chosen herbs in hot water for about 15 minutes, allow the mixture to cool to a comfortable temperature, strain out all the plant material, and pour the herbal water over yourself in the shower.
